Brilliant
People have been asking for ages for Sokito to release their popular Scudetta with an AG outsole variation and the company seemed to take their time in fulfilling these requests. However, they had good reasons as they wanted to make sure that their AG outsole was not just good, but that it was the best. This means of course they had to test various soleplate layouts until they got what was best. I personally agree with their approach as the Scudetta upper is excellent, so the AG outsole had to be just as excellent. This willingness to strive for perfection means that we got, in my opinion, one of the best AG outsoles in some time.

The first thing we need to talk about is the stud layout and studs themselves. There are fourteen studs overall on the forefoot, with the standard four on the heel. There are nine larger studs around the outer part of the forefoot, with five smaller ones in the middle of the forefoot. What is really nice about these studs is that they seem specifically designed for AG surfaces as even the larger studs are much shorter than most AG studs from much better brands.

In fact, most AG soleplates from a lot of brands seem like they are FG studs made slightly shorter. What separates the Scudetta AG from these other brands is just how nice studs feel (or rather you do not feel) underfoot. It is a really comfortable ride, and yet even when the surface is super wet (it rained and sleeted during some of my sessions) the grip is still there.

Another impressive aspect of the stud layout is that even though the studs are short, they still offer a good amount of grip without feeling like the boots get stud into the artificial surface. While I normally have no issues with many AG soleplates on the market, that is down to how I am personally, and most AG soleplates on the market are simply not good enough as many brands try to make AG soleplates that work for both FG and AG surfaces. As a result of this, the AG studs are often far longer than they should be. This could potentially cause issues leading to injuries. Sokito have not gone down this path, the AG soleplate on the Scudetta focused specifically for AG. Again, the boots feel excellent to the point that I will have these in my back as a backup from now on.

For sizing, I went with the same size I wear in the FG, which is a US 8.5/UK 7.5/EU 41.5 (ignore their CM sizing) and the fit is perfect in that it is snug and wrapped around my feet. If your feet are slightly wide, or you prefer a less tight fit, go half a size up.

Something else that is excellent is the stiffness and snapback of the soleplate. One of the issues I find with a lot of AG boots is that in order for the studs to not give too much pressure on the bottom of the feet, brands will make the AG soleplates out of softer materials that do a better job of absorbing the pressure of the studs. The problem with this approach is that the soleplates end up being more flimsy and lacking in stability versus their FG counterparts. The Mizuno Morelia AG is a prime example of this issue. The soleplate is soft and is great at absorbing pressure but it is far to flexible to offer any decent stability. The Scudetta AG, on the other hand, has excellent snapback that propels you forward and this means you do not have to give up that snappy, reactive feeling that is expected of a speedboot just because you went with the AG option.

If I was to be super critical, I’d say there needs to be a slight flex point in the middle of the midfoot, but that is more something other people may want rather than something I personally prefer.

Outside of that, however, I find the Sokito Scudetta AG almost faultless. I absolutely love the FG model, which was my boot of the year last year, and it is no different here with the AG model. It is brilliant. For me, this is the best AG boot on the market.
